Proposed budget cuts would devastate higher education in Arizona: Show your support for our universities—come to PUBLIC EVENTS in Tucson and Phoenix this week and next. Before the state legislature are budget options that include more than $600 million in cuts to the universities to address the state budget deficits for this year and next—cuts that will gut higher education in our state. There will be two opportunities—this week and next—to show your support of the university system, as well as your concern over the proposed cuts. This Thursday, Jan. 22, the Arizona Board of Regents will hold their January board meeting on the University of Arizona campus, in the Student Union Memorial Center, 1209 E. University Blvd. At 1 p.m., the meeting will begin, and the Call to the Audience will occur shortly thereafter. We have heard that scores of individuals will be attending this part of the board meeting to show their support—PLEASE JOIN THEM and show the legislature that Arizona supports its universities, and understands the importance of a strong, quality higher education system in advancing our citizens personally, and our state economically. The next opportunity to show your support will be on Monday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. on the lawn of our State Capitol, 1700 W. Washington, Phoenix, where the universities’ presidents and the Arizona Board of Regents, along with business leaders, will hold a press conference. Specifics will be outlined regarding the detrimental impact of the proposed cuts to our universities and our state. Again, a large turnout of support will send a powerful message to our lawmakers that Arizonans want strong, accessible universities—PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND and bring 10 or more of your colleagues! Please pass on this email to 10 or more of your colleagues—help us spread the word! Regards, |
